COUCH PATATAS

THE DARK KNIGHT : NOT JUST YOUR ORDINARY BATMAN MOVIE

Yup. Am a Batman fanatic, no doubt about that. I even dragged eloi just to see the film last Saturday(after convincing that maganda naman ang audio sa galleria). They have single showing though(unlike in megamall) so I made it sure that ill make most out of the entire showing.

I was looking forward to check the movie release after I have learned that Heath Ledger co-starred as the Joker. Whoa. After seeing his performance (and partly, his butt..hehe) in Brokeback Mountain, I knew that he can do the Joker above par.

But I was mistaken. He was not doing the Joker. He is the Joker. (cliché as it may have reviewed by other movie critics). I felt the tingling suspense as he speak. The scene where he spoke to Rachel Weiss telling her tales of how he got his scar (plus his other anecdotes) made me shiver . he was creepy. Knowing that Ledger is already dead. But I find very weird because the totally of him as the Joker made me forget that he is Heath Ledger. Whew.

I think What made the Dark Knight a defined movie for 2008(aside from the record breaking top grosser amounting to whopping USD 190M) is not only for the credits of Bale and Ledger. The cinematography was subtle, discreet but with substantial impact for its simplicity( they had turned the large container truck upside down without stressing my eyes for the explosion). I did not get tired of the fighting nor the combat scenes. Christian Nolan brought me to where Batman’s heart is, after all , he was a normal, sensitive human being.

Despite the promotional items (from action figures, to all model gadgets, apparel , shoes, etc) and other advertisement, the Dark Knight successfully separated itself to the mediocre and stereotype action hero movies. I guess Nolan had depicted to its viewers the other side of Batman and Bruce Wayne (more detailed than Batman Begins) without distorting the Bob Kane definition.

NOTED: yet, I was astonished. Eloi slept at the middle of the flick!

THE NATIONAL PARK OF EDSA

BUS-TSD!

(the life and misunderstading of a commuter)

Minus the rant, I just want to describe what EDSA is during the rush hour. Long before I made my first entry in my blog ,I had already imagined what it look like to publish what I witness everyday in this historical boulevard in metro manila.

The GEOMETRY and PHYSICS of BUS STOPS

I bet, manila will rank first when it comes to bus stops. Taking for example the bus route from monumento to baclaran, there are nearly at least ten bus stops, can you bear it? I almost peed in my pants because of these dilemna when the aircon bus I rode into from magallanes to ortigas. The bus picked up passengers from ayala for 30 minutes, another 15 minutes in buendia station, estrella gas station, Guadalupe, pioneer Robinsons, then boni station (which is less than 50 meters apart!), crossing (the unbearable 30 minutes of SAGALA), megamall (building B,then building A) and at last, ortigas . hay apo.

In the long stretch of EDSA you will see the innovative and DISKARTE of the buses for them to get passengers. Even a fence with the large signage of WALANG SAKAYAN DITO …(with a threat of NAKAKAMATAY..) did not escape from the passengers just to catch the bus.

Only in the Philippines that you will see the parking of buses aside from parallel parking. Kulang na lang they will attempt to park perpendicular to the either sides. Matindi to pare. You could either choose to park your buses for possible passengers by the following angles : 30. 60, 120, 160 degrees. You name it. You can do it as long as you are in EDSA. Buses can even park nose to nose with other buses. How clever.

 TRAFFIC ADVISORIES

Radio and TV advocates the traffic situation in Manila by feeding updated information to motorists.  I find it helpful  even for a commuter like me.  I can choose what route to take going to office based on the reports.  But as House will tell you, its not the cure for the illness.  There is still traffic problems no matter how accurate and updated the info is. I have proven this when the Ayala mishap had immobilized the traffic flow in the southbound area .

Patience is a virtue.

This is a minimum requirement once you decided to stay here in manila. You got to extend your patience to wait and to bear the painstaking traffic..especially when an accident took place at the middle of a busy boulevard..especially, when you’re destination is heading thru EDSA.

The collision of an oil tanker carrying a flammable gas called ethanol with the railings along Ayala southbound created a pandemonium yesterday. The accident took place around 3 in the morning but the towing and securing the road from ignition started almost 8 arleady. I thought, I will not going to make it to my work . I have to text rms that I’ll definitely late.

I’ve chosen to take C5 road, initially since there is an fx bound to Kalayaan where FTI jeepneys are parked. But , unaware of the accident, i have no choice but to wait eventually for an hour before the Fx arrived, another  hour and a half from Rosario to Kalayaan, and another half an hour to my work. It was so taxing. The three hours seem like forever, and  not to mention the heat.

Today, another accident happened at the exact location where the tanker collided yesterday. It was a truck of sand. Two mini-accidents followed because of  the urge to get through the way. Unbelievable.

Am beginning to miss home.
